Beach Vacation in Kamchia

For about 5-6 years, I have been going to the beach with friends at the Kamchia resort complex. For me, it is one of the few remaining places on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast that is worth visiting. But it depends on personal taste.

So, what do I like about the Kamchia resort?:

• There are no tall buildings, and 90% of the accommodation is in bungalows.
• The beach is huge—the longest beach in Bulgaria, stretching 13 kilometers from the northern part where Kamchia is located to the southern part where Shkorpilovtsi is located.
• The beach is free – there are no sun loungers or umbrellas, you have to bring your own. For some, this is a disadvantage, but for me it's an advantage.
• There are several restaurants near the beach, and the prices are quite reasonable.
• There is also a well-stocked shop nearby, as well as places where you can buy freshly prepared fish to take home (mullet, anchovies, black sea bream, mussels).
• All this is in an oak forest, and the temperatures are very pleasant. Even in the evening, you need to wrap yourself in a blanket because August evenings there can sometimes be cold.

In the early years, we stayed in the bungalows at Camping Rai, but for the last two years we have been staying in the bungalows at RDG Blagoevgrad, which are also open to outside guests. The bungalows are not luxurious, I would say they are not even average, but that is not so important to me.

Boat trip on the Kamchia River

One of the attractions there is a boat trip on the Kamchia River. On the south side of the river is a reserve protecting the longoz forest, as well as hundreds of protected plants and animals. Unfortunately, the north bank has been spoiled by people – bungalows, sheds, caravans.

There are several piers that offer boat trips. Prices vary, but I think the most expensive was 15 leva per person, but you can always bargain for a lower price.

Papaz Kulak Beach (Paradise Beach)

At the northern end of the beach in Kamchia, there are interesting rocks. If you go around the rocks and continue for another 500-600 meters, you will reach a unique beach - Papaz Kulak/Paradise Beach. It can also be reached from the village of Dolen Bliznak via a dirt road, which ends high above the beach and is followed by a steep sandy path down to the beach.

Activities we did while we were at the seaside in Kamchia

For the last two years, we have been trying to go to Kamchia at the beginning of August, when the Varna Rock Adventure festival takes place in Asparuhovo Park. So, besides sunbathing, we also go to rock concerts.

This year, there were also festival evenings in the nearby village of Priseltsi. On the first evening, we went to a concert by Vasko Krapkata, and on the second evening, there were nestinar dances, something I hadn't seen live for many years.

To conclude, I would say that a summer vacation in Kamchia is truly a vacation—there is none of the noise of the larger resorts, it's as if time has stopped there, it's very peaceful. And this year, for the first time, there were areas with lifeguards on the beach, but there were also unguarded areas.
