Here is the official fasting calendar of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church for 2026. Each year includes several multi-day fasts as well as regular one-day fasts. The longer fasting periods precede some of the major Christian feasts:
Great Lent (February 23 – April 11), which comes before Easter. It begins seven weeks before the Resurrection of Christ, on the Monday after Cheesefare Sunday, and meat is not consumed even during the week of Forgiveness.
The Apostles’ Fast (June 8 – June 28) — begins on the Sunday after Pentecost (the Sunday 50 days after Easter) and continues until the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul (June 29).
Dormition Fast (August 1 – August 14) — the second strictest fasting period after Great Lent, lasting exactly two weeks. On the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord (August 6), fish is permitted.
Nativity Fast (November 15 – December 24) — the fast before Christmas, beginning on November 15 and ending on Christmas Eve.
