On Saturday, May 31st, we rode through a very picturesque region of Southwestern Bulgaria – Razmetanitsa. These are the villages on the southern slopes of the Konyavska Mountain between Dupnitsa and Kyustendil.

We caught the train at 9:30 from Blagoevgrad to Dupnitsa, arriving in Dupnitsa at 10:17. From there, our bike ride in the direction of Kyustendil began on the main road, after which we stopped at the village of Dolistovo. The road passes right by the Bobovdol TPP and the traffic was quite heavy, truck after truck, but it’s good that this section is very short and you can cross it in 5-10 minutes. After that, the road was very quiet, with almost no traffic.

Video from the bike trip:

In the center of the village of Dolistovo, the road branches off. One road goes to the village of Novoselyan, and the other to Babinska Reka and Babino. This year we chose to go through Babino and Mala Fucha, the road is a few kilometers longer, but the elevation gain is more gradual. Both roads converge in the village of Korkina.

We took a break for photos in Babino, and then at the fork in the road to Korkina we stopped for a short break to gather ourselves. That was the highest point on our route – 800m above sea level.

Next comes a descent and a slight climb past some interesting rocks before we find ourselves in the next and last village in the Razmetanitsa region – Gorna Koznitsa. The next village is Tavalichevo, which now falls under the Kyustendil municipality. There are many cherry plantations around Tavalichevo, but this year the situation with cherries is very bad, we didn’t see any anywhere. The snow in April destroyed the entire harvest.

From Tavalichevo to Nevestino it is only downhill. We pass through the village of Katrishte and continue down until we reach the Struma River. In Nevestino we sat down to eat at the restaurant right next to the Kemerovo Bridge - a stone bridge that is a symbol of this region.

From Nevestino to Boboshevo we only stopped for a short break, as the road was under repair and was not very pleasant to ride. Already in Boboshevo we stopped at the store to get a cold beer and drink it at the tap at the end of the town in the direction of Dragodan.

From there to Blagoevgrad there were still about 20 kilometers left, which we took with 2 short breaks. In total for the day we rode 94 kilometers with over 1000m of positive elevation gain. And I rode a little further to Bachinovo so that I could exceed 100km to win a Strava challenge.
